I love Netflix.
It's bordering an addiction, but I have no shame.
Some nights I would rather stay in and watch Netflix than go out to a bar.
{positive: I save money. negative: social life suffers}
After my surgery, I was bouncing back and forth between Youtube and Netflix.
I also realized that my favorite genre on Netflix is the Documentary section.
I have always been a fan of non-ficion television or movies, but since I am not a film major or film buff, I didn't think much of it.
But I put together my favorite documentaries that I have watched recently.
So here are my top ten
{in no particular order}
1. "Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead"
After viewing this film, I wanted to run out and buy a juicer, purge my fridge and cupboards of all things unhealthy, then tell the world about my discovery. I have yet to buy a juicer, but it is on my shopping list and I have stopped eating so many types of food. This man has inspired so many and changed so many lives.
2. "Dear Zachary"
Make sure you have a tissue box close by. I have never cried so hard during a film before. My heart hurt, but felt so much joy because it shows how strong a family's bond really is.
3. "Monica and David"

This film demonstrated that love comes in all shapes and sizes. Monica and David are a married couple that have Downs Syndrom. Their family supports them individually and as a couple. Another great example of a family bond.
4. "Business of Being Born"

I have always been interested in water and natural births. After watching this, I already figured out my birth plan and I am NO where near the point of having a baby. It opened my eyes to a whole new perspective of bringing life into this world.
5. "Janis"

I am a HUGE fan of Janis Joplin. This film left me speechless. It makes me so sad her life ended so early, but she made a huge impression in the blues and rock and roll world. I have a small poster of this movie on my bulletin board in my room. I see it everyday and it gives me chills.
6. "The September Issue"

This is the real "The Devil Wears Prada", no joke. It's one of my favorite movies, so when I came across this documentary my jaw dropped. I was amazed by how successful one woman is. Talk about motivation!
7. "Ballerina"

I did ballet for nine years. I have been wanting to go back to it, but I don't have the time or the money to. I cried during this documentary because I understood all of the hard work that is put in day to day to master the art of ballet.
8. "After Porn Ends"

This is for mature audiences only...clearly. It may seem a little odd to be on this list, but it's actually talking about what happened to these "stars" after their 15 min. was up. I think a lot of girls that are contemplating putting their bodies out there for a quick buck should watch this and see what may be in the future for them.
9. "Joan Rivers A Piece of Work"

I've always loved how sassy Joan Rivers is, but I didn't know a thing about her. I saw her on an episode of "Nip/Tuck" and my curiosity grew. Now I respect her more since she is a comedy pioneer. This documentary follows her during her low times and high times. You understand her humor and outlook on life.
10. "The Six Degrees of Helter Skelter"

Charles Manson has always scared the absolute CRAP out of me. But I didn't know what he did exactly. All I knew was that he murdered people. This documentary goes into detail about how manipulative this man was and the aftermath of his brainwashing. It also shows where exactly he was arrested and the lengths he went so he wouldn't get caught. Kind of creepy, but extremely interesting.
So that sums up my favorites so far! This might turn into a series because I love me some Netflix!
